John Stuart Mill noted the benefits of two major competing political parties. In this country, the balance of power has historically changed between two broadbased parties over and over again. Our major parties decide who the candidates will be and they play important roles in our government. There are also minor political parties that have tried to challenge, but never really changed anything, this two-party system.
