Our Vacation to California

Well, its a pretty interesting story as to why we decided out of all places to go to California on vacation. It all started when we came upon a web site that had a link to the San Diego Zoos Panda Cam on it. Well for some unknown and captivating reason we instantly became obsessed with watching these pandas on cam every day. Then one time when we were watching the panda cam we noticed that you could click on the panda cam and from there it linked to another web site that had all kinds of San Diego based cams on it that you could watch 24 hours a day. There were about seven different ones on that site, but it was the Del Mar Beach one that attracted our attention. Well we soon became obsessed with that cam as well, watching it everyday. I guess one obsession really does lead to another. So anyway we made up our minds that we would go to San Diego this summer to see our beloved pandas in person and to Del Mar beach to see the cam and try to get on the cam so everyone else who is obsessed with the Del Mar Beach cam and watches it all the time (yeah right, like theres actually others out there like us) could see us online.

So anyway we ended up staying a week. We went from Monday June 21st to Monday June 28th. From Monday to Thursday morning we stayed in Del Mar beach. We absolutely loved it! It was funny because when we first arrived Monday we did not really like it at all. I guess we were both expecting Del Mar to be like a typical East Coast beach tourist city, like Ocean City Maryland and popular places like that with cheap souvenir shops selling t-shirts, key chains, beach type jewelry, postcards, hermit crabs and body boards etc, and a boardwalk with wax museums and tons of restaurants. So when we arrived and we saw it didnt have that whole beach flavor to it we were kind of disappointed. It was kind of deserted and we couldnt find much to do or many places to eat. The next day we explored the town more and we saw it was much better than the typical tourist beach scene; instead it was a very rich and high class place. It had a lot of restaurants with fine dinning and a lot of nice shops with very expensive clothing and other items in them. We had a great time! We spent all day long on the beach. The ocean was kind of cold there, pretty different than the east coast beaches, but we got used to the water in time. The weather was kind of weird too. It rarely rains in the San Diego area and usually its always sunny but we went during a time known as June Gloom. It was nice out during the day, windy near the ocean, cloudy a lot of the time and the evenings were a bit chilly too. The only thing that sucked was our piece of crap hotel. First off it was just a very low class place and second of all it was too far from the beach and the plaza (which is where most of the nice shops and restaurants were). We wasted too much time walking because of how far away it was; it held us back from doing some things. But we know better now where to stay for next time!

Anyway our next stop was San Diego and I must add to a much nicer hotel! We stayed there from Thursday afternoon to the following Monday. We had a fun time there as well, although we really loved and missed being at the beach. Thursday we were dead tired and feeling lazy so we did absolutely nothing but cuddling on the couch and watching movies. Our next three days there were very busy; we really tried to pack a lot into a short amount of time. The first day we went to The San Diego Zoos Wild Animal Kingdom. The next day we went to Sea World and then finally the last day we went to the San Diego Zoo and saw our pandas which started the whole thing in the first place! Surprisingly we enjoyed Sea World the best. I think we were both a bit disappointed with the pandas; not that we love them any less! But the way the zoo had it set you you kind of had to walk through the exhibit as opposed to the other animals that you could stand at and look at all day long. We visited them twice. The first time they were sleeping and the second time they were up but their backs were towards us. Everything was a lot of fun!

Two other notes I must add we almost missed our flight from Pittsburgh because of a sour puss bitch lady who wouldnt let us through security but luckily Kristina knew someone there who knows her father well and he got us through. And I must mention George!!!! Our trip just would not have been the same without him! He was the cab driver that transported us around a lot. He was very nice, trusting, caring, and honest. We really took a liking to him and ended up giving him a cookie, a very nice tip, and a panda coffee mug we got at the zoo for him.

This trip was truly the best trip of my life and the best week of my life. Not because it was fun but because its when my best friend became my girlfriend.
