BELGIUM (Back)

Together with France Belgium can be described as one of the least evangelised countries in Western Europe. Belgium is divided into two parts the Flemish in the north and west and the Walloon in the South and East. The Flemish speaks a Dutch dialect while the Walloon speaks French. The capital Brussels is also the Capital of the European Union and the Headquarters of NATO. The Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France border Belgium and Belgium could play a strategic role in evangelising Europe. Belgium is also sometimes called the Crossroads of Europe.

Belgium has been fought over and oppressed by the surrounding nations and during the 16 th century most of the protestant church were wiped out by the Spanish Inquisition. Belgium has a population of 10 million with a very high standard of living but spiritual the poorest. The population is culturally Catholic but secular in reality. The number of priest has halved since 1960 as the whole of Europe moved into what is called the “Post Christian Era”.
