Things to consider before adopting an OES
Old English Sheepdogs take a lot of time in grooming. It takes several hours each week to groom one OES. Your dog needs room to run. OES have lots of energy and being a large dog, need space to run. A fenced yard is important to the dog's health. Training is a must for OES. They are a head-strong breed and need training to obey basic commands to ensure a good owner-pet relationship. An untrained dog, being this large, is often the cause of owner turn-in's. Time for obedience training is a must.
As these dogs have already experienced at least one home, sometimes more, it is very important that the placement be made carefully, for a good fit in dog-owner compansionship. A visit here to meet the dog and a visit at your home if you have other pets is important to see the possible pet to pet relationships that form. We hope to avoid any further confusions on the pet's part by being very careful in the placement. Adult OES weight from 65-100 pounds, so these large dogs are not recommended in homes with children under 12 years of age.
These dogs are success stories.
