I remember the day I saw the ad in the Simcoe Shopper "rottie puppies $350.00" I told my husband and the next thing I knew I was on my way. When I arrived I found there were 2 females and 1 male left. I made my pick or should I say she picked me. After hours and hours of playing the name game we finally decided on "Snickers" It just seemed to fit her personality. (If you know her then you know exactly what I mean.) We decided to go to some training classes, little did I know how this would affect my future. I went to Pet Country Estate in Innisfil just for some pet dog classes, when trainer Jim Gilchrist opened my eyes to a whole new world. The world of competitive obedience. I caught the bug and I wanted to learn all I could about it and how could I do it. We set out for our first test, the Canine Good Citizen and Urban Canine Companion test. Snickers passed with flying colours. From there it was on to more formal training, although Snickers is not CKC registered she can compete in the Nambr trials We went to our first Nambr trial on Sept. 26 1999 and won the class and HIT,(high in trial) with a score of 191.5. I was on cloud nine. We completed novice placing 2nd and 3rd. It was then that my friend Rose pointed out to me that I could get an ILP number and I could go to the U.S and compete in their trials. WOW this was great. We went to our first show in Hamburg, NY and entered in novice placed 3rd in the first trial and 1st place in the second trial with a score of 195.5. We have finished our American CD and CDX always placing. We also obtained our United Kennel Club CD in April of this year. Snickers is a wonderful dog who is just so much fun to train. She loves to work and has an awsome attitude. We are training for utility and if we can get past "shaking and killing the glove" we will be ok. |
