| J.K.Rowling(Joanne Kathleen) grew up in a church cottage in Tutshill Village in Forest of Dean.(read more about the forest on the fun facts page) Mrs. Rowling's father was a factory manager and her mother was a lab technician; She loved to read books. Two of many of her favorites is "The Little White Horse" by Elizabeth Goudge later on "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.J.Lewis. She started writing at a young age and wished to be a writer. At age six or seven she wrote her first story which was called "Rabbit". She studied French at the University of Exeter in England. Her parents hoped that she would become a bilingual secretary. But J.K. still wished to be a writer. In 1990 J.K. started to write a story about a child who was trying to find out who he was. It took her about five years to write her first book. Bloomsbury Books bought her book which was called "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" After having been a big hit in the UK, Harry Potter hit the book shelves in the United States of America. The title was changed to "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". Right now Mrs. Rowling lives with her daughter and husband in Scotland. (More to come) |
