Jackie is Nick's mother, and one of Massimo's former lovers from his post-Stephanie days. Jackie believed that Massimo didn't want her or their son, so pretended for years that Nick belonged to her husband, Mr. Payne. After Nick's accident, Jackie ended up in Los Angeles, and although she got involved with Eric, it wasn't long before she ended up back with Massimo. The two married, but Jackie couldn't forget Eric, or get her mind off Deacon, the new man in her life. When she realised Nick was in love with Brooke, she was overjoyed that Brooke seemed to be carrying Nick's baby. When she learned that there was problems with the paternity test, she convinced Deacon to do another test. In their wait, she got extremely drunk, and realised that Deacon had taken advantage of her state. Luckily, the paternity test turned out the way she wanted and Nick was the father, but now Massimo believes she cheated on him, and is determined to catch her. After Massimo kicked Jackie out when her withholding the truth about the paternity snafu with Brooke's baby (which created an estrangement between Ridge and Massimo), she spent much of her time with Deacon. The two became lovers again, and learned that they had a great deal in common. Just as they were beginning to prepare for a future together after Jackie signed divorce papers, Massimo shocked her by telling her he wanted her back. When Nick, who hadn't spoken to Jackie since the paternity snafu, threw his hat in Massimo's corner as well, Jackie told Deacon goodbye and moved back in with Massimo who, since he never filed the papers, was still her legal husband. Deacon left town shortly after.
