HOW TO CONTINENTAL STITCH

There are 2 general schools of knitting. One is generally called English, or more technically  throwing, and involves holding the yarn in the right hand. The other is generally called continental, technically picking, and involves holding the yarn in the left hand.

Continental Knitting is well known as a faster more efficient way to knit. Utilized in
parts of Europe as well as the United States it is often envied by people who knit American

HOW TO DO THE CONTINENTAL STITCH:
Insert the left needle into the back of the stitch on the right needle, wrap and remove. Here is the neat thing. The yarn is over the index finger of the right hand. When the left needle is inserted in the back of the stitch, the yarn from the right index finger can be picked up at the same time. There is actually no movement to wrap. It is automatic.

HERE IS ANOTHER DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTINENTAL STITCH:
Insert right needle from left to right through the front loop (nearest you) of the stitch on the left needle. Keep the yarn in your left hand at the back of the needles.

Lay the yarn on top of the right needle (wrapped from you moving away from you). The needle should be on TOP of the yarn. It is very important the yarn is moving away from you and not toward you...otherwise your stitches will be twisted. With the tip of the right needle, pull the yarn through and keep it on the right needle.
