River Road
These were taken a few weekends ago when we went for a drive along the Mississippi River Road.   We went south and east of the river on Saturday..................................
Saturday
St Gabriel Church.  Because the Mississippi is so unpredictable the church has been moved four times since it was built in 1709.
This is not what it looks like..... and I know what it looks like!  It's actually a crawfish mound which was right by the church.  Because a lot of the surrounding area is wetland, these are everywhere!
Further along the River Road is Indian Camp Plantation, a former leper colony.  It's now a National Guard outpost and a school but there are still 30 or so elderly leprosy patients on the camp and several Daughters of Charity, an order of Catholic Nuns who take care of them.  What a lovely trip out!  We made a day of it....... we took sandwiches!
