Totem Poles in Stanley Park

Stanely Park is another extremely popular destination in the city. It is the home of many little attractions. One such attraction is the totem poles. Tourists often flock to these poles and take pictures with them.

Here's a closeup of one of the totems. The totem poles are a form of Native Art. This area of North America has a very distinct form of Native Art.

There are many First Nations (the Natives in Canada) tribes in the Vancouver area. Their names include Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsawassen. They were here before any European set foot in North America. Their descendants continue their culture in the form of their art.

Museum of Anthropology

This is a Native wood sculpture at the UBC Museum of Anthropology. Anthropology is the study of other cultures. Because the most available cultures for study in Vancouver are First Nation cultures, there's a lot of research about them.

This museum is home to artifacts from around the region. It helps the community to understand the past of Vancouver better and also the cultures of all those who live here.
