KITTEN CARE - CONTINUED _ Part 2 Grooming: Use a metal wide tooth comb daily. Comb down to the skin. I usually use a very soft toothed slicker after that, lifting and brushing the coat in the opposite direction, then I lightly brush it back again. Do not let your cat be the boss in this department but don't be aggressive about it either. Regardless of how much they cry, bite the comb, hiss...keep combing everyday and one day it will become a bonding element between you and your kitten, and they will adore being groomed. Talk to your kitten throughout this process and use positive praise, and a tiny favorite treat at the end of the grooming process. I will show you how to do this. Nail clipping: Try clipping the nails biweekly. Never clip past the white part of the nail, only clip the clear section. Spread each toe out and push the nail outward. Then clip where it looks clear, move on to the next nail. If your kitten fights this routine....don't let him think he's winning, even if he is. After you try to do each nail, even if you miss a nail or all, then and only then do you consider the nail clipping routine done. Sooner or later you will get all nails and he will stop fighting. He honestly can't tell if you clip or not as long as you remain in the clear section of the nail. Some breeders prefer to clip after a bath when the nail is softer. I prefer to clip before the bath so not to get scratched during the bath. Front nails need to be clipped twice as often as back nails. Therefore once the routine is down, switch back nails to monthly and front nails to bimonthly. If you cut the nail too far and it bleeds, monitor it well and apply a little pressure to stop the bleeding. A little peroxide or a Stipic Pen might be needed in some cases. kittens leave Shikoku with freshly clipped nails and a bath. Ears: Clean ears with a Baby Wipe, but only clean out what you can see! Never enter the ear canal, leave that to the vet! Do ears weekly. Eyes Care: The purebred Persian's eyes tear. This is due to the tear ducts being compressed, so the tears overflow the eye, instead of recirculating as ours do. The tears oxidize when they hit air and this causes the red/brown color. This is perfectly normal for this breed of cat. Please wash your Persian face daily and cautiously. Select a routine time to clean the face and groom the kitten. Don't allow the eyes to become infected by not cleaning them regularly. I will show you the procedure and equipment I use on my cats and your kitten before you leave. Your kitten is very used to this and should not fight you. Remember to praise your baby, and give a hug afterwards. Health Guarantee: Your new kitten will be in perfect health, free from diseases, mites, fungus, worms, and fleas from Shikoku Cattery. It has been inspected by our vet. If anything happens to this kitten and it should die, heaven forbid, please bag the kitten and have him put into a refrigerator as quickly after death as possible. Have him taken to the vet and Autopsy for cause of death. If it is something caused by my breeding (genetically) during the first year, I will replace the kitten with another kitten when a breeding is made possible at my pick and choice, but I can not refund any money. I know once you are attached to one kitty, another doesn't do the trick, but I am offering a replacement if you wish and for when you will be ready to accept another kitten. I suggest for you to have the kitten checked within the first 5 days with a vet of your choice to ensure the vet health certificate is valid, which I supplied to you at the time of adoption to take to your home. Kittens are not returnable unless a Licensed Vet states there is a health problem in writing to me within this 5 day period. You will have to sign a Sales Contract, to this fact. Routine vaccinations may be given by my Vet or be Breeder administered and you will recieve a vaccination certificate. New owners are advised to discuss further vaccination options with their own veterinarian, but agrees that all health guarantees are null and void if this cat is given a FeLV or FIP vaccine. Shikoku Cattery tests extensively and uses only neg. tested cats. Enjoy you're new kitten, and Im always available by phone to help and guide you. |
