| When I was 7 months old mom entered me in a photo contest at the House Of Kibble. I was voted "Queen" :) They asked for a story about me, and by me, so Aunt Katie helped me write one for them. Here is my story that was submitted February 2001 |
| Hello, please allow me to introduce myself, I'm Nikki. Picabo's "Lotta Love" Larsen to be exact. I'm 7 months old, black with a touch of white on my chest, female and a Newfoundland. I would like to tell you my story. I was born and raised for the first nine weeks of my life in Birdsall, New York. Birdsall is not to far from Buffalo, N.Y. That's probably why I have constant cravings for chicken wings and pizza! A double order of hot wings with extra blue cheese and a cheese and pepperoni pizza, the perfect meal. I can smell it now! I have 3 litter brothers and knew from day #5 that I was going to live in Antioch, Illinois. It was shortly thereafter that it was learned that I would be called "Nikki". A name that my new mom and dad, Linda and Mark, choose for me. So Nikki Larsen I was to be. My Aunt Katie, who claims to be a music guru, remembered Nicolette Larsen's song from the 70's "Lotta Love". Thus giving me my registered name. So now I had a name, a new home and a new family. I was so excited. Suddenly my first mom, Ellen, from Picabo Newfoundlands and my Aunts Katie and Denise started doing the strangest things. They had weekly "photo shoots", made videos, wrote a poem and would sing this silly song. They sent them off to my new family every week to prepare them for my arrival. I'm not sure why they needed to be prepared...after all, I'm Nikki, I'm so fine I'll blow their minds!! We did this for nine weeks, as well as talk to my new mom Linda every Sunday. These Larsen people knew more about me than I knew about myself! When I arrived to my new home, I was so delighted to meet my new family. I have a Newfy brother, Kodi, a Collie sister, Ginger, and a cat brother Larry. My Newfy sister, Cassie went to heaven shortly after I got here, now she is my guardian angel. Boy, do I feel blessed being here! We all get along just great. Sometimes I chase Larry through the house but only because he takes my toys. You see, I have the greatest toys and don't mind sharing but Larry forgets to share. I merely want to teach him better manners, that's all. I love spending my time outside building sand castles in our big sandbox, that is until this white stuff came. Mom says it's called snow and boy do we have lots of it. I like the snow but playing hide and seek with Kodi and Ginger isn't as easy anymore. I haven't figured out how they always find me. Kodi and Ginger told me I'd figure it out when I get older. When we're inside we get great snacks from mom and dad. We get slices of apples, oranges, banana's and even carrots. We have family time and separate mommy and daddy time. When mommy and daddy go out we have our special time. Kodi, Ginger and I watch the videos of me when I was little. I pretend I'm mom and say "Oh how cute" "Oh how special" "Oh how beautiful"; Kodi and Ginger roll their eyes. They say I'm spoiled because I'm the baby. NOT I'm just Nikki and I'm so fine! Sometimes I get one of mom's scarfs and her high heels and pretend I'm her accepting my "Best of Show" award. It's one of mom's dreams and someday I hope I can make it come true. We're in school now learning all kinds of new things. I got them all down pat but mom needs a little more practice. Someday I want to go to New York to the Westminster Show. I know everyone wants to do this but I want to go there to sing the National Anthem. They do sing that there don't they? You see I love to sing....... So perhaps I could just sing "my song"! I just love life and have a whole "lotta love" to give. I have so many people that love me and I love them. I guess my name says it all. I even have my own web pages on the internet.
