| Orlando Bloom was raised in Canterbu Kent. His mother encouraged him to participate in the local Kent festival, so he began writing and reciting poetry. However this didn't spark his interest in becoming an actor. He loved super heros like superman and he realized that to become one he had to be one on the big screen. At 16 he relocated to London and started to perform with the National Youth Theater. Soon after he recieved a scholarship with the British American Drama Academy. After that he played the lead in A Walk in the Vienna Woods. While going to school at a school of music and drama he tried to get into a friends rooftop terrace when he fell down two stories and broke his back, almost paralizing him. A while after the incident bloom and his peers tried out for roles in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Bloom tried out for the role of Faramir, instead he was asked to play the role of Legolas Greenleaf, the prince elf, who has super-human strength, swift reflexes, and heightend sensory awareness. In order to play this challenging role, Bloom went through extensive training, like archery, and swordplay. That seemed to pay off in the film. |
