| If you are on this page, you are interested in some of the differences of the various bibles out there - and they are really different! The following abbreviations will be used here: NIV - New International Version KJV - King James Version NAS - New American Standard AM - Amplified bible NLT - New Living Testament ASV - American Standard Version The following verse is from the KJV (king james) Psalm 21:21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness and honor. here are the other versions of the same verse: He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor He who pursues righteousness and loyalty finds life, righteousness and honor He who earnestly seeks after and craves righteousness, mercy and loving kindness will find life in addition to righteousness (uprightness and right standing iwth God) and honor Whoever pursues godliness and unfailing love, will find life, godliness and honor He that followeth after righteousness and kindness findeth life, righteousness and honor My own personal opinion is this: take the word 'mercy' for instance - one version calls it love, one calls it loyalty, one calls it kindness. If you look up 'mercy' in the dictionary, it is defined as compassion. In a thesaurus, it is also called forgiveness, clemency, pardon, grace, but never loyalty. The word 'righteousness' is changed to prosperity, and godliness, by some versions. The word 'righteousness' means right standing with God - not exactly godliness, which actually means religious, devout, spiritual, God-fearing. Never does standing right with God mean prosperous - which most people automatically view as wealthy and successful. As stated in the previous page, I use the King James, and I balance that with an NIV. The NIV is easier to read, but the King James uses more accurate language. It is a mix that works for me. The version you chose to use is your own decision, just be informed and make a decision based on knowledge, not popularity.
