"Signs"

Widowed farmer and ex-reverend,
Graham Hess discovers mysterious
crop circles appearing in his corn field in this sci-fi thriller.

"Signs" offers an unsettling look at an
emotionally wounded family trying to
cope with the growing belief that their
world is about to be invaded, as every
'sign' around them becomes a portent
of doom..

M. Night Shyamalan
Rated:    PG-13

Graham Hess -
Mel Gibson
Merill Hess - Joaquin  Phoenix
Morgan Hess - Rory Culkin
Bo Hess - Abigail Breslin
Officer Paski - Cherry Jones
Gryphon's Take: Tense, amusing, and thought-provoking.  Signs is an  enthralling tale with thrills, chills, and issues of fate and faith mingled successfully together.  The cast is strong, and the characters believable as the tension builds and leads to a satisfying conclusion.
Grade:  A
Phoenix Take: In my opinion Signs is one of the best movies of the year. This movie has it all: suspense, action, humor and a spiritual side. Joaquin Phoenix and Mel Gibson are outstanding in this movie. This movie is not just about other life forms but remembering to believe in miracles.          Grade: A

Halloween:  Resurrection

Six (un)lucky teens win a contest to take part in a live Web cast of a night spent in the childhood home of serial killer, Michael Myers.  Naturally,  Michael drops in to liven things up a bit.

Director: Rick Rosenthal
Producer: Paul Freeman
Rated
:  R

Jamie Lee Curtis -
Laurie Strode
Bianca Kajlich -
Sara Moyers
Sean Patrick Thomas
- Rudy Grimes
Busta Rhymes -
Freddie Harris
Luke Kirby -
Jim Morgan
Ryan Merriman -
Myles
Brad Loree -
Michael Myers
Gryphons Take: Halloween:  Resurrection tries gamely to resurrect the spirit of the original Halloween, with its lights-out, old fashioned scares, instead of relying on gore and special effects.  Its still fun, but theres a feeling of having pretty much seen all this before.  Some humor and a few  interesting plot twists are thrown in, though, and some digital age gadgets play important roles in this outing.  See it if youre a Halloween fan, or a horror fan that likes your horror flicks the way they use to make them.
Grade:  B-
Phoenix Take:
"Halloween Resurrection" was an interesting come back for Michael Myers after having been dead in H2O. I found this movie to be quite entertaining and a good old-fashion scary movie. I also enjoyed Busta Rhymes' humor and Jamie Lee Curtis' come back once again. I look forward to the next one because those who have seen this one know Michael Myers shall return again. I just hope they know when enough is enough. Do not spoil a good thing.
Grade:  B+
