EXT. CLEARING -- DAY
A grassy clearing, with a large tree under which the group
has set up camp. Xena is sitting with her back to the tree,
holding her sword in a ready position, an anxious, paranoid
expression on her face. Joxer is lying on his back in the
grass a few feet away, and his hands are digging into the
turf on either side of him.
JOXER
Is Gabrielle back yet?
XENA
I think the dinosaur got her.
JOXER
Oh. That's too bad.
XENA
Yeah.
JOXER
Should we go look?
XENA
I'm not going anywhere.
JOXER
I would go, y'know, but if I move
I'm going to like fall off the ground
and I don't know where I'll end up.
What's a dinosaur?
XENA
It's like a really big lizard the
size of Hercules.
JOXER
Oh.
XENA
It's purple, too.
JOXER
I don't like purple things, I think.
They're always so loud.
XENA
Yeah.
(holds sword, eyes
darting nervously
from one side to the
other)
I don't mind that it keeps singing
that stupid song, y'know? I don't
mind that. What I do mind is it keeps
trying to hug me.
JOXER
That's not nice of it.
XENA
I've got to stay here. If I stay
here, I can't see it, and if I can't
see it, it can't see me.
JOXER
I really wish the grass would hold
still.
(pause)
At least it's not purple.
XENA
Yeah.
JOXER
I hate the way it's laughing at me
though.
XENA
I hate that stupid song.
Gabrielle enters, whistling cheerfully. She has a recently
cleaned pot under one arm, and sets it down by the fire.
GABRIELLE
So. Did everybody like my mushroom
stew?
XENA
Gabrielle, could you please kill
that dinosaur for me?
GABRIELLE
What's a dinosaur?
JOXER
(carefully lifts one
arm, staring at it
in wonder)
Did you ever really look at your
hand?
