daughter of
Arthur Thorpe and
Peti Pirihi, and great grand daughter of
Jack Lewis and

About May Thorpe
May Ata Thorpe
was born in 1905 and died in 1992. The only child
of Peti Pirihi (see
here) and Arthur Thorpe, she married
Matiu (Mathew) Porou Smith.
Matiu and Maye have sixteen children and numerous descendants.
May was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints. I did not know her well, but I am told she
was a good woman.
Her mother Peti went on to have nine more children.

Our Thorpe Connection
Olga Okeroa Peakman nee Smith is the eldest of the children of Matiu Porou Smith and May nee Thorpe. She was born in Gisborne 15.09.1920. Olga married James Peakman in a large ceremony at Nuhaka. Olga and Jim have fifteen children and numerous descendants. Olga was raised by her Aunt Bessie in Nuhaka. She attended Nuhaka Primary School and Queen Victoria College in Auckland. She married James in 1938.
