Wedding in
Wales |
|
|
|
Nancy Sewell and Stuart Keen 12 October 2002 Caerphilly
Castle, Wales On rare occasions, fairy tales do come
to life. This wedding was one such 'once in a lifetime' event. Words are
impossible to describe the imagery of a medieval castle, the colours and
styles of costumes, the sounds of harp and strings, the taste of a feast
for a kingdom, the sheer joy of welsh folk dancing, or the profound beauty
of the 'giving of the hands' speech by the maid of honour and the first
man at arms. Many had dreamed of this wedding day for a long time. Perhaps
no one expected just how breathtaking it would be. |

Caerphilly Castle: the inner ring of the double
moat and a piece of the bluest sky and softest clouds you'll ever find on
a day in Wales. |
|
The picture of the ceremony hall
can't do justice to describe the decorations... hundreds of candles around
the room, a harp, cello and violin ensemble, flowers, the coats of arms,
three handpainted murals designed for the occasion, a three tiered wedding
cake with a castle, and an animal skin rug at the altar. |

Bridal party: Just imagine how rich
the colours were and how vibrant the fabrics. Susie stitched hours into
every gown (before she fell and broke her arm and the girls had to finish
sewing the dresses). Nancy's dress was a replica of the famous
painting of a young maiden dubbing a knight. She was splendid. Stuart wore
a full suit of chain-male armour under his cloak, and then wore a full
wolf skin cape over top. |

The gown that mom and I made especially for the
wedding. It was truly a a day beyond any story ever told in a
fairytale. |
