At 38, LOREN's daily accomplishments speak well of her dedication,
discipline and work ethic which she imbibed from her late grandfather,
Jose P. Bautista, former Editor-in-Chief of the Manila Times.
Loren is the youngest, most awarded producer, newscaster and public affairs host in the Philippine broadcast industry. Her programs are highly respected and are used as reference materials by members of the Philippine Senate and various academic institutions. She is the recipient of more than thirty major industry awards, among them the Catholic Mass Media Hall of Fame for her magazine program PEP Talk, on ABS-CBN. The success of the newsmagazine program, The Inside Story, proves that a program can rate, sell, win awards, survive and bring back credibility to the television industry. She is co-anchor of the multiawarded ABS-CBN news program, The World Tonight, for which she has been consistently awarded as "Best Female Newscaster". LOREN is a TOYM awardee in 1992, a Benigno Aquino Fellowship awardee in 1995, and a TOWNS awardee in 1996. She has also been named KBP Golden Dove Broadcaster of the Year for 1996. She is producer of the only environmental documentary series on Philippine television, EarthLink, which has won the Earthday Media Award and The KBP Golden Dove Award. LOREN believes in making media more accessible to the marginalized sectors of society. She has also made it a personal crusade to allow Filipinos from the most remote islands to share in the power of media. For her outstanding work with the Muslims, she has been bestowed the honor of being an honorary Muslim Princess Bai' a Labi by the Marawi Sultanate League. LOREN has been named as one of the "10 Most Admired Filipinos" together with Jaime Cardinal Sin, Pres. Fidel V. Ramos, Jose P. Rizal, etc., by students of prestigious universities and colleges such as the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, De La Salle University, Philippine Women's University and Miriam College - for three consecutive years: 1995, 1996, and 1997. LOREN's civic involvement include being a member of the board of the Citizen's DrugWatch Foundation, the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs, O.B. Montessori Grassroots Leadership Foundation, and Kapatirang Mabini. She is founder of Save our Seas and Trees for Life Foundations. She is a Likas Yaman Awardee of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for espousing crusades to save the environment. Her crusades "Save Our Seas Foundation" and "Trees for Life Project" have benefited not only the community but the whole nation as well. Aside from being an environmental advocate, LOREN is also an anti-drug crusader and a defender of the rights of women and children. LOREN was educated at the UP College of Mass Communications (Cum Laude) in 1981, with a degree in Broadcast Communications. She was president of the UP Broadcasting Association. She has a masters degree in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines. The youngest in her class (Batch 27), she emerged as topnotcher. She was awarded two gold medals: one for academic excellence, and the other, for best thesis. She is a Lieutenant Colonel of the Philippine Air Force (Res.). She is a columnist of the Manila Bulletin and is author of "PEP Talk, The Book". LOREN is married to former Batangas Governor J. Antonio Leviste and has two sons, Lorenzo Antonio and Leandro Antonio. LOREN is the only daughter of Antonio Cabrera Legarda of Manila and San Pablo City, Laguna and of Bessie Gella Bautista of Malabon and Antique. |
