SECTION II: Rules for Constructed-Deck Formats
In addition to the Arena-The League for Magic Standard
Floor Rules, all constructed-deck formats will adhere to the following
rules:
1. The constructed league deck must contain a minimum of sixty (60) cards.
In addition to the league deck, players may, but are not required to, construct
a sideboard of exactly 15 (fifteen) cards, which must always contain that
number of cards while play is in progress. The use of a sideboard is further
explained in the Standard Floor Rules (#11) above.
2. Players may completely change the contents of their deck and sideboard
between matches, but not between duels.
3. No more than 4 (four) of any individual card, by card title, may
be used in the constructed league deck (including sideboard) with the exception
of the five basic land types (Plains, Forest, Mountain, Island, and Swamp).
Note: For the purpose of official league play, snow-covered lands are considered
basic lands and are not restricted by the four-per-title rule.
4. New expansions to Magic: The Gathering may not be included
in league play until 30 (thirty) days following the retail release date.
5. Restricted and Banned cards exist for this style of play. Each constructed-deck
format has its own Restricted and/or Banned Lists. Banned and Restricted
Lists are changed four times each year. If the Duelists' Convocation International
has issued a Banned or Restricted List for any play format subsequent to
the publication date on these Rules, that list will take precedence.
No more than 1 (one) of each of the cards on the Restricted List are allowed
in the constructed league deck (including sideboard). If more than 1 (one)
of any individual card from the Restricted List are found in a player's
deck and sideboard, this will be interpreted by the official as a Declaration
of Forfeiture.
Any cards appearing on the Banned List are banned from constructed league
decks. If any card on the Banned List appears in a player's deck or sideboard,
this will be interpreted by the official as a Declaration of Forfeiture.
