Merry Christmas Stueys!
This update is coming from god ol' Falls Church, VA. Things are a little different around here, but nothing too major. People still don't know how to drive.
My grades are starting to come in. I got a C+ in math, a B+ in Russian, and a A in Russian cinema. Now I just need to find out how I did in my seminar. I am looking at something between a 3.175 (at the lowest possible) or a 3.325 (most likely.) That is a solid start, rome for improvement certainly, but without that math pulling me down any more, I should be able to do much better.
Well clearly, the main point of this post is to talk about Christmas. I think I want to put my ideas out here and see what others think. Christmas, to me, is a holy day. It is a day of celebration, (Which is why the exchanging of gifts is appropreate.) it is a day of rememberance, and thanksgiving, it is a day to look forward into our futures, and a day of self evaluation. A day to remember that Christ will come again and when He does, we must be ready.
I do have one slight problem though. This is not a secular holiday. (The whole term "holiday" is misleading anyway, but thats another rant.) This holy day is one of the pillars of the Church. It is the second most important day in the liturgical year. Not to be eletist, but it grinds my nerves when people talk about Christmas with no more expectation than presents and buying and food. Or at its worst, greed, envy, and gluttony.
Of course I can not assume that someone who says Merry Christmas on the street is a secularist, and I don't. Some people, however, I know don't give a damn about the holy day. It is degrading to the Spirit, to see one of the holiest times of the year become one of the strongest days for sin.
Basically, I say, Merry Christmas to the Christians. To everyone else, I say, may your coming year be filled with happiness, and don't sue me for saying what I want to.
