(I accidentally deleated the origional contents of this entry. I dislike it more than you... This is aproximately what I feel and where I stand currently.)
Hey Stueys,
Well election time is drawing near, and I have watched the debates and discussed the consequences with people holding every possible politicial view, from libertarians to monarchists to green to communisis to democrats and republicans, and I have finally decided. I can not support either canidate.. Both have violated party rules. Both attempt to be moderate despite being quite one sided. I find their arguments insulting and demeaning to the American people. Further I find the American to be eating it up. People cheering at the hair raising barbs of the canidates, and screaming their ideas at eachother like it will matter or change someone elses mind. Does the most powerful country in the world need to be ruled by a man I wouldn't allow to run my fast food resturant (assuming I had one.) I have become disheartened by the status of the country now and I am trying to figure out what the cause is.
I blame media. I think Jon Stewart is right, Bill O'Reily has a few good ideas too. The media is corrupt, yet, through a constant appearance of neutrality (the above shows not included) they have distroyed the integrity of the canidates and just given us angry voters. Notice I do not include Al Frankin in that category. That man is an idiot.
Do not assume I am becoming more liberal, my conservative friends. I still believe in free enterprise, small government, trickle down economics, and I am still pro-life. But Bush and the Republicans don't seem to care about that any more. Kerry accuses Bush of not spending enough money on government programs. And rather than say, "I shouldn't spend money on that" our President argues about the ammount he spent! Kerry, meanwhile, would raise taxes on the middle class. He still hasn't explained where all the money is going to come from for his health care plan. Also if he thinks he will be free from increased need of military budget, you're wrong. He hasn't said he won't go to war with more countries. And I reitterate what I said previously about his ability to unite the world behind his terrorism-fighting plan. I don't believe he can do it. The world is more diverse and run by crazier people than the United States, and he can't unite us. Further, the rest of the world would, I believe, expect us to compromise some of our security. I certainly wouldn't want France or Spain dictating how to deal with terrorism.
But neither side is supporting that. And since both are supporting ideas that I find abhorent, I am not voting.
Sorry to all my more left leaning friends who might have believed I was coming around. I am still conservative, but in a totally different way from the President. |
