| The Best Decision We Ever Made... On our first day in Crete myself and Lett had visited almost every hotel in Platanias. One stood out amongst them all...Perry's 5. it was 25 euros a night so i suggested to Lett that we spend a couple of days there to sort ourselves out. Lettie went back to the reception where Andonis was still chatting, and told him our plans. Feeling embarrest and extremely naive we carried our cases downstairs and into a taxi. 'Platanias' we said...and it turned out to be the best decision we ever made...:) On the way to Platanias we both decided that Epimendis was a no-no. Even if we got the jobs, we wouldnt get paid for at least a week and couldnt afford the bus fares. We got out in Platanias square and breathed a sigh of relief. This place always felt like home. We walked down to Perry's. The shop next door was owned by the same people, so we went in looking for the same happy lady who had shown us around before. She was nowhere to be seen. In her place was a spotty, ugly, 100% unhelpful teenage dirtbag, Me and Lett became so frustrated at his retardedness that we left and dragged our cases into Perry's reception and sat down. As always there was nobody behind the desk. I contemplated stealing one of the keys and helping ourselves to a room...but we couldnt. After searching around for a bit we found a phone number on the desk. We rang it and waited for the owner to come and greet us. AT LAST! We had secured somewhere to stay. We chose appartment number 21, and moved in! :) PHEW all this n it was only 7o'clock. Lettie went to the local shop and bought a newspaper. She sat for ages looking through all of the adverts looking for the words 'English' or 'girls.' She rang a couple of people and arranged an interview for us at a jewelerry shop in Chania for tomorrow. We went out to celebrate...it had been one hell of a day and we were still unsure as to whether or not our time in Crete was coming to a close... That night we went to Splendid, HOLY COW. I was so shocked when i saw Alex's happy little face bounding in my direction.. 'Shit Lett, what the hell is he doing home early????' Friday 2nd July We slept all day and awoke debating whether if was worth us going all the way to Chania or not??! In the end Mike forced us to get the bus. We felt that it was pretty much our last chance of surviving in Crete. We were both mentally and physically worn out from all the stress we'd encountered so far. All the same, we hopped on the bus. Wierdly, id never been to Chania before and i didnt really know what to expect. When we arrived it was pretty dark. We were relying on Letts foggy knowledge of the town to find our way. No joke, this place is pretty darn big but Lett came up trumps and we soon found ourselves in the Old Town, exactly where we wanted to be. I was reminded of 'Diagon Alley' as we looked into all the little boutique windows in the narrow cobbled streets. This town really is magical at dusk :) Eventually we found the jewelerry shop. It was cute and the jewelerry expensive. We spoke to the man in charge who seemed positive he could get us jobs and suggested we re-visit tomorrow at 12 to speak with the owner. Feeling much happier we walked round to the harbour where Lettie had arranged to meet a friend from last year. He was known as Tall Manolis (HAHA)... and i was soon to realise why! We met by the 'big white horse in the square' lol. Tall Manolis was very tall.....and very skinny...like a telephone pole1 He seemed nice enough anyway, so him and Lett had a quick chat and then we made our way back to the bus depot. On the way we bumped into Christos ( Theodores cousin...apparently) and had a very tough conversation owing to large language barrier! and then we hopped back onto the bus. Getting dropped into Platanias we invested in a large celebratory 2Ltr. bottle of Vin De Crete!! LEDGENDARY. (later to be known as magic potion.....yes Charlie, magic potion!) |
