Loryn Frey received the Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal
Performance from Baldwin-Wallace College, the Master of
Music from the University of Cincinnati College - Conservatory
of Music and her DMA from Louisiana State University.
She studied with Eve Roine Richmond while still in high
school, Melvin Hakola, Lucille Villeneuve Evans, Earl
Redding, Sandra Kungle and Martina Arroyo. While in college
she studied opera and sang leading roles under the
direction of Italo Tajo, Sophie Ginn and John Eddlemann.
She has also worked with Oren Brown, Shirley Emmons, Beverly
Wolff and John Alexander and coached with Thomas Grubb,
Daniel Lockert, Robert Evans and Henri Venanzi. She made
her professional opera debut as Adele in Die Fledermaus
in Flagstaff Arizona and has also appeared professionally
as Adele and Musetta in La Boheme with the
Alexandria Lyric Opera under Frank Monachino; Micaela
in Carmen and Fiordiligi in Cosi
fan Tutte under Boris Goldovsky, and Alice Ford
in Merry Wives of Windsor and the Witch
in Hansel und Gretel with the Red River
Opera.
Loryn
Frey was a National Semi-finalist for the National Association
of Teachers of Singing Young Artist Awards and a Regional
Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council opera
auditions. She has also appeared with Dave Brubeck as
soprano soloist in his La Fiesta de le Posada
and with composers Theron Kirk, Dinu Ghezzu and Dinos
Constantinides and a regular soloist at the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati. She is a national Endowment for the Humanities
Verdi Scholar and listed in Outstanding Young Women of
America and Outstanding Young Women of the South. She
has performed in oratorio and recital throughout the South,
Ohio and in Stuttgart Germany, Paris, Florence, Roma, Marghiera and in Baja and Budapest,
Hungary.
Dr.
Frey has served on the voice faculty at Louisiana College
as Vocal Coordinator. She is also the Opera Theater director.
She is a member of the National Association of Teachers
of Singing and has served as president of the South Louisiana
Chapter and has been a member of that organization's Regional
Board of Control. She has served as Louisiana's Student
Auditions Chairman and Young Artist Awards Chairman for
the National Federation of Music Clubs since 1998. She
continues to serve as an adjudicator for these and other
organizations and competitions by invitation.
