The Windstar Foundation was founded in 1976 by singer/songwriter and environmentalist John Denver along with Aikido Master Tom Crum.
Windstar is a non profit environmental education organization which promotes a holistic approach to addressing environmental concerns. It is the recognition and demonstration that each of us is part of, and responsible for, the quality of life on planet Earth; and that which affects any one of us, affects us all.

The legendary North Sea Jazz Festival moved from its traditional home in The Hague to Rotterdam in 2006, but its formula and aims remain intact. Several times declared the best jazz festival in Europe and once voted among the top 10 events of the year, North Sea is renowned for the many musical genres it offers. The list of past performers is a role call of fame and virtuosity and includes Miles Davis, Ibrahim Ferrer, Ella Fitzgerald, Lionel Hampton, Al Jarreau, B B King, Wynton Marsalis, Bugge Wesseltoft, John Zorn, Nat Adderley, Erykah Badu and The Brecker Brothers among many others. There is something for everyone here, including a children's jazz matinee called "Gigs for Kids". A programme of jazz workshops and exhibitions of jazz photos, drawings and paintings by national and international artists are also included

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) did well in the Centre for Higher Education Development's (CHE) ranking of excellent European graduate programmes. The ranking was developed for the disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The UvA's Chemistry and Physics programmes were ranked in the so-called Excellence Group. The ranking assists prospective Master and Doctoral students in their search for the right European university.

World's largest one-day marching
Every first Saturday in September at Oosterbeek near Arnhem (The Netherlands) the world's largest one-day marching event is held. The Airborne March is a march in commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem of September 1944. The 62st Airborne March will be held on: Saturday September 6, 2008
The Airborne March is intended to honour the 1700 British and Polish soldiers and airmen who lost their lives during the Battle of Arnhem and are buried at the Airborne Cemetery at Oosterbeek. The revenues of the Airborne March are used to enable veterans and next of kin with poor means, to come over to The Netherlands and attend the annual Airborne-commemorations in and around Arnhem.Start and finish are at the sports park Hartenstein in Oosterbeek, just beyond the Airborne Museum, the former Hartenstein Hotel, which was used as Divisional H.Q. at the time of the battle. The march is also meant to remind one and all, especially the post-war generations, of the sacrifices man was ready to make for the restoration of democracy.
