FRIENDS
Well, I already talked about it a bit in my "school" section, but friends can be awfully deceiving: how do you know a friend is a friend? If you're in high school right now, do you think that you will still be best friends with your best friend 40 years from now? Do you *really* have a best friend, or do you *actually* just have a "bunch of people" that you know really well? I talk a bit more about this in my mind food section. My feature this month!
(Above) One of the ways that I determined who my best friends were (from high school) was done by my "best" friends themselves! By throwing a surprise party for me during my last year in high school, I realized that there *were* people who cared for me. People who voluntarily do things for you when you least expect it are, undisputably, the greatest of friends; why else would they have spared the trouble? Everytime I look at this picture, I see at least one strong remnant of my past that I hope will endure. (March 15, 2002)
(Above) These were the finalists for the world series of Poker intra-fraternity tournament that my fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, holds every semester. Hours...and hours....and still more hours of Texas Hold-em, and Preston (the guy who looks like he's staring up at a fly on the ceiling) wins at approximately 5am in the morning. We've got to work on the speed of play...girls hate that stuff. Especially the one in the picture. Genny, she'll stop making us cookies if we keep this up... (Nov 21 2003) In other news, many people might ask, "Does being in a fraternity help you fashion closer friendships?" Well, my answer to this is two-fold. If you have been following my progress through Duke so far, you will probably be able to (correctly) guess that I find a fraternity , at least mine, to be NOT particularly conducive to forming close friendships. However, I encourage you to read my mind food section for an update...a change of events that even I would never have predicted.
