so i went back east. mama hadn't gotten much better when i found her and mary. they were living together in a small rundown apartment that wasn't reall fit for anybody to live with. i found out from the neighbors that there was normally a different man in the apartment each night, and at times two or three in one night. i tried to talk to my mama about this, but i just kept getting pushed away.

"It's none of your business, Miss Big-Shot-I'm-Better-Than-You. Do what you needed to do, and GET OUT!"

it felt kinda good to know that nothing had really changed. i stayed there a few nights, whenmary asked me about lia, i told her the truth. mary was thirteen now and she acted every bit her age, crying and being emotional about a person she'd never met, let alone who'd never met her. mama came home from work, or wherever she'd been and asked my why mary was crying. i told my mama about lia and all she had to say was very rude and hurtful

"That little redskin was no good anyways. She deserved it probably."

mary got really upset about that so i took her out shopping. we went to the local mall and just spent some time together, being with mary always makes me feel so wonderful. well, at least it did until we were leaving the mall. we got stopped on our way out by a pan-handler, he smelled horrible and was drunker than anything. he was begging for money or something. i looked closer. it was jason. and surprisingly enough, he recognized me. but even more surprising, mary recognized him.

"You coming over tonight, Jason?"
