| Progress Report 2005 January 2005 - As the roman calendar began a new cycle people around the world made their vows to change for another year. In a drunken haze each new years eve in the past I made promises to change all the things I didn't like about myself and the world around me. They were empty promises, full of the optimism and hope of a new year I made unrealistic aims. This year I vowed that whenever I saw something I did not like I would say so, if there was any way I could take action to influence a change in it then I would. I met other like minded people and the South West Pagans came to be. In our first month we created the e-group to keep in contact with others, found out about the Tara project and set up our first website. We also did research into pagan representation in government and wrote up some of our views on paganism and the world. I wrote an e-mail to the local council about green issues in our town (no reply yet) and we ran out of space on the first website. A good start to 2005. February 2005 - The UPK web forum opened in February 2005. It still exists today and if you wish to contribute to the databases on the forum, or the discussions then it can be found here. - http://pagansintheuk.proboards40.com/index.cgi A letter was written from a member of the UPK to the Barnstaple Council regarding recycling and the state of Leaderflush Shapland in Barnstaple in an attempt to seek some resolution to the problem. The letter went unreplied. The UPK discussed with members of the Scottish Pagan Federation how they came to gain recognition and become an observer on the Inter-faith council in Scotland for guidance and inspiration. They also found that the Scottish Pagan Federation representative had not been accepted yet as a member. A member of the UPK went to the Barnstaple Library to request a listing of pagan publications, finding them lacking they requested an explanation. They were asked if they could supply a list of books that would be suitable for the library to purchase on the subject. The UPK began looking into the possibility of joining PEBBLE. The admin contacted each of the groups who partnered PEBBLE at the time to find out what PEBBLE's aims were to be and found the basic requirements at the time. The requirements were: - "They must be democratic, if they handle money then they must be accountable to their members. They need 200+ members and have meetings other than the internet. They must be representative of a range of ages and include both men and women." At the time the UPK's membership did not come up to the minimum required so the idea was put on Mission Statement for future consideration. In February 2005, the first temporary representative and assistant were assigned for the county of Buckinghamshire. The temporary representative for the Isle of Wight was assigned. A letter was sent to the local council to request more information about the council's responsibility to provide for members of different faiths, if they have one. Enquiries about the ownership of abandoned buildings in the local area that could possibly be used for pagan gatherings lead us to several options to get in touch with the owners. Information is in the process of being gathered about forming a coven. A visit up to Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire was very constructive in forming a mission statement, a structure and the first two temporary representatives who are already making swathes into the tasks in their county. March 2005- Members of the United Pagan Kingdom arranged an Oestar ritual for pagans local to Barnstaple. An admin was assigned for the US. April 2005- Admin from the UPK attended two moots on the weekend of April 10th 2005. They attended the monthly moot at the Willen Stone Circle and then the Lavedon moot where they did a seminar on the UPK and it's aims. A temporary representative and assistant were assigned for Devon. May 2005- Coven/moot lists began to go up for the Bedford area. June 2005- Members of the United Pagan Kingdom attended the Health and Harmony weekend at Tapeley Park on the last weekend of June. They spoke to individual pagans about their concerns and desires for a pagan group and gave out leaflets with more information. A meeting between admin and temporary representatives in Milton Keynes to pass on paperwork for data protection and membership forms. A temporary representative for the whole of London was assigned, with a view to gaining extra representatives for specific regions of London at a later date. |
