| The United Pagan Kingdom are in the process of setting up a democratic network of pagan communities throughout the UK. This began in January 2005 with an inquiry about whether pagans had free representation in the UK and how one would contact pagans in the local community. There were several organisations out there that were helpful in finding individual pagans, covens and communities - like the Witches Voice and Wicca UK but many of the organisations that represent pagan networks in the UK charge their members to access that information and to vote. At the United Pagan Kingdom we believe that you should not have to pay to contact other members of your faith, to have your opinion heard and registered or to gather for rituals. After speaking to many pagans and soul searching the United Pagan Kingdom was formed. In the early days, this was known as the South West Pagans. An affectionate name given by its founders who unsurprisingly lived in the South West. We have written a mission statement to give a clear idea of our goals, for ourselves, those who support us and anyone interested in the work that we are doing. This is in its early stages and as we complete aims (some are ongoing and we hope will never end) we will post information and adjust this mission statement accordingly. Any changes to the main content of the Mission Statement will be viewed at an AGM and discussed with/voted on by the members. The aims of the United Pagan Kingdom: Temporary Representatives to be appointed for each county. The temporary representative would be responsible for contacting the pagans within their community and setting up the infrastructure to hold elections. For more information see our page on regional representatives. This is a voluntary position. Provide an network within each county to put lone witches in touch with covens local to them. This would be achieved in the format of an website for each county, a community group online, contact details for the temporary representatives And a network of pagans within each county that can be contacted at various moots they hold. Provide a local area support structure for lone witches/warlocks/pagans/druids who would like to remain so but wish to be in contact with others who share their beliefs. To advertise moots, meetings and groups that are open that they can attend if they wish on a no commitment basis that already exist within their area. Campaign for conservation, religious freedom and humanitarian issues that the members of the United Pagan Kingdom vote to be of the most concern to them. Talk to local education bodies, tourist information, companies and government bodies about their facilities for pagans. We would like to see pagan literature in the libraries, counsellors who understand paganism and any issues that would arise from it, doctors who understand how our faith affects their suggested treatments. Create an online community by which pagans can keep in contact with other pagans throughout the UK and worldwide to find mentors in their paths, students, form covens and socialise. There is a pagan forum set up by the UPK that pagans from all paths are welcome to use. Remember to take a look at the rules section, they're all common sense and basic netiquette. Produce pagan literature on the internet and when financially viable, in print. This would be by the pagan community for the pagans at this stage, later it may be used as an educational tool. Included within this would articles, pagan fiction and poetry. To hold fair elections in each county of the country so that the United Pagan Kingdom can act upon the wishes of the pagans in each county individually and assess the views of the pagans in the UK as a whole. "To gain a membership that is a diverse mix of ages, gender and paths (at least 200) to meet the requirements to join PEBBLE which at this moment is the only organisation that speaks with the government on matters concerning the pagan community in the faith in the community project." While we understand this is the route that exists at this time into having the voice of the members of the UPK heard we will look into alternative means - as PEBBLE at this time allows the organisations to charge their members to join and vote which is amongst the things we do not agree with that they do. We will be talking with Pebble about the finer points of their organisation to see if it is the right path for the UPK to take to get to our goal of seeking truly democratic representation for the pagan voice. For more information about temporary representatives in your county see the page on Regional Representatives by County. Blessed be. United Pagan Kingdom. |
