For about 25 years I waited for a chance to go to Australia. I always loved it, but never saw it in real, till the summer of 2002. In july I flew with my 2 sons to Australia and we spent 6 weeks there. Because of the flight plans of the planes we took, we flew all over the country, or the continent if you want. The flight over Europe, the Middle-East and Asia was very beautiful too, but once we flew over Australia ( we came in at Port Hedland, WA) , it was like flying over another planet ( Mars? ha ha ). From Port Hedland we flew to the east till we were just a bit south of Alice Springs and there the plane bended to the south, to a bit north of Adelaide, SA. then the plane headed east to Sydney, NSW. The next day we flew north to Townsvile, QLD for the Great Barrier Reef and for visits. After a few weeks we flew back to Sydney and stayed there for a week. The plane that was taking us back to Singapore and then to The Netherlands flew different this time: back to Queensland, over Mt. Isa and then heading north-west. We left Australia at Darwin. So we flew over every Australian state. One should think I would be satisfied now, but no way, I want to go back as soon as possible!

Holland dramatically dirty October 15, 2004 Among all the traits to choose from-- such as pragmatism, tolerance, entrepreneurial spirit, openness to dialogue-nowhere do we see the word "cleanliness" or orderliness mentioned, even though our very word for "beautiful", schoon, means "clean". However, the opening headline on the TELEGRAAF's front-page tells us why cleanliness is not considered as "typically Dutch" anymore: "Our country dirtiest in Europe". Satellite images on the front-page show the Netherlands covered with the highest concentration of nitrogen dioxide pollution in Europe and is the dirtiest country of the world.
Another very good reason to emigrate from Holland to Australia!
Music: "Waltzing Matilda".
