Episode No.: ?

Main Characters: Jean, Xavier, Scott, Duncan, Rogue, Risty

Other Characters: Kitty, Kurt, Evan, Lance, Hank, Kelly, Logan, Sam, Rahne, Jubilee, Bobby

Synopsis:

Opening scene is an assembly, seemingly to honour the star athletes of Bayville High. Kelly chats about the Girl's Soccer Team and introduces their star player, Jean. What a surprise. Out in the audience, Scott talks to Evan and Kitty about it. Meanwhile, Rogue is unimpressed. Risty is also unimpressed; with Rogue's lack of support for her friend. Back up on stage, Jean starts hearing others' thoughts without meaning to. She starts freaking out, clutching her head and falls backwards, knocking over the trophy table and snapping the head from her own trophy.

Opening Credits

In slow-mo, the head snaps from the trophy. Jean finally manages to stop hearing everyone's thoughts, and even manages to give the other students the illusion that she was just stressing over the spotlight.

Outside, we join Kitty and Evan on a highly humourous discussion on why skateboarding will never be accepted as a school sport. They split up to go to class, and Lance appears, walking Kitty to Chemistry.

In another section of BHS, Scott and Jean are talking about various things, but the subject slips to the party that Duncan is holding that night to celebrate Jean's victory. Scott wasn't invited. Jean convinces him to go anyway, however.

In Chem. class, Lance and Kitty are discussing Lance's apparent love for Chemistry. The subject slips to stink bombs, and after a startling insight into life with the Brotherhood, new Chem. teacher Hank McCoy enters and proclaims the class will be making stinks bombs. Some kewl music plays and everyone's cheering except Lance and Kitty, who are happy, but extremely surprised.

After a great deal of grooming, Scott decides that he's ready to leave the Institute for Duncan's. He walks out only to encounter Kitty, whose stink bomb euphoria seems to have turned to horror, as her favourite pink jacket is now a very, very stinky garment. After a few words, Scott starts downstairs, only to be bashed into by Sam and Rahne playing a healthy game of tag, mutant style. Outside, it appears the New Mutants are still against him. Bobby has froizen over the entire front drive in an effort to impress Jubilee. Then he makes a tiny ice ballerina. Raincoat-girl is firmly smitten. Scott, however, is less than impressed.

At the all-important party, Duncan is playing gridiron... with a soccer ball. Either he's trying to get a rise out of Jean, or the misguided soul truly believes that throwing the ball through the doorway and out the window is the way to score a goal.

The ball sails right out the window... hitting Scott, who just parked his car. Go figure.

Back in the party, Scott makes an annoyed enterance, when we now notcie Rogue and Risty sitting on teh sidelines. Risty's commenting about how soccer's called football in England and Rogue's uneasy around Scott. Risty takes the hint and realizes her friend's crush, but agrees to leave with Rogue.

The party's running quite well, save for an extreme rivalry between Scott and Duncan. They play off in a funny match of ping pong until Jean interrupts, catching the ball and pulling Duncan off. After she has a few harsh words and he starts flirting, Jean starts hearing everyone's thoughts again. Distressed, she races out onto the balcony where Scott's sulking, and is apparently in pain. Scott notices her, but Jean, surprised, knocks him over the edge of the balcony. She catches him with her TK, but then Duncan comes out and she drops him accidentally. Poor Scotty.

It seems Jean decided to return home after her mishap, because she's back at the Institute with Scott, insisting to Xavier that nothing's wrong. Kurt in fuzz mode appears... then Risty and Rogue walk out of a door. Kurt manages to change in time, but Kitty phases out of a wall and Logan uses his claws to get an apple. Risty is surprised, but not overly so.

Outside, Rogue apologizes to Risty, and Risty brushes the incident off, leaving. Rogue stomps back in unhappily, and after an X!PepTalk (tm) starts going up the stairs to sulk. As she walks, she thinks something to the effect of 'If it was Jean's friends, there'd be no problem!'. Jean replies in annoyance, having heard it with her crazy powers, and Rogue starts getting very annoyed, telling Jean to stay the hell out of her head.

The next day is track meet, which is taught by Hank. Apparently teachers who'll work at BHS are few and far between. Scott and Duncan are showing off at their various athletic skills, trying their hardest to beat eachother. Apparently, while Duncan's damn good at pole-vaulting, he really sucks at throwing the javilen. Vice versa with Scotty. The two eventually get to the sprinting, and Duncan muscles Scott out of the way. Good ol' Hank stands up for him, though, and kicks Duncan off the team. Meanwhile, poor Scott's been sprawled across the grass, minus his sunglasses. Hank helps him, where we get suspicious that Hnak knows more than he lets on.

Jean's over at the shotput, seemingly preparing, until she starts getting her thoughts barrage again. Her TK malfunctions, sending the javelin flyig towards where Kitty and a few others girls are getting ready for their sprint. Lance is sitting on the bleachers, appearing extremely bored, until he sees the javelin and makes a quake, causing all the girls to collapse.

But Jean isn't satisfied with that. Her TK's still all frizzy and picks up a bunch of shotputs, hurling them at the next unfortunate parties. Beast catches two and Scott blasts the rest, including one which is going towards the heavily sulking Duncan. The shotput fires off and Dunk doesn't even notice. It lands on Kelly's desk, poor guy.

Kitty, Scott and Jean appear to have disregarded the ideals of attending school and have raced home. Jean's out cold, and Xavier lays her down on an operating table, with Scott and Logan standing guard. Of course, Xavier's mind meld plan fails miserably and she ends up floating in the air surrounded by stuff.

Outside, all the other kids also totally disregarded school and raced home and are now suited up outside. They make a plan that really hinges on Scott's ego, but hey, it's never let them down before.

After a pretty cool but ultimately useless fight scene, Rogue manages to absorb Jean's excess power and Jean speaks through her. Very creepy. Anyway, everything is resolved, and Jean wakes up with no memory. Scott runs to her, ignoring the emotionally (and physically!) hurt Rogue.

Rogue and Scott have a little talk where Scott still doesn't realize Rogue loves him, and he walks out to speak to Jean. he gives her a bouquet of roses, but it turns out they were from Duncan. And, taht's about it.

My Rating: 8/10
I can't figure out what, but there was something I really liked about this ep.

What I liked:
Scott in general. He was very normal in this, which we all know I love.
The blatant Lancitty hints ^.^
The Scott-Jean-Duncan love triangle. Even though we all know it will end, it's nice to see how long Dunk can hold on to her
The part with the New Mutants was cute. Bobby and Jubilee are pretty cute together
When Risty and Rogue walked out and Kit phased through the wall

What I disliked:
WHY weren't any of the BH (aside from Lance, but he was watching, so he doesn't count) at the track meet? We all know Pietro's looking for any excuse to run very fast.
The voice actor for Risty apparently forgot to lay on the British accent at the start. Or maybe that was just me...
I liked Scott and Dunk competing, but being the star quarterback, shouldn't Duncan have been better at throwing? On the flipside, Scott, having probably actually trained with a pole vault, should've been better at that.
I thought Jean was with the school paper. And a cheerleader. And involved in a lot of other stuff. Just seems weird that she'd take all that on, plus powers.
Are you really allowed to just leave school like that if a friend faints? Because someone really oughta tell my friends that.
Of course, what everyone's been saying. Is Girl's Soccer really that important?
Duncan seemed a bit out of character. I mean, he throws a party, evidently on a weeknight, for the sole purpose of celebrating Jean's victory. Now, I think I'm correct in saying he was never that nice before and will never be that ncie again.
Talking of which, why was there a party on a weeknight? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't the general practise to have parties on weekends so that if you get drunk, it's okay because you can just lie around the next day?
Why didn't Kitty and Rogue just phase through all the objects floating around Jean?

Quotes:
"Game, set and match!" (grabs Duncan's arm) "And now, a word with our sponsers!" Jean
"Maybe she can focus on me!" Scott's Ego
Scott: (holds out roses) "They're for you,"
Jean: "They're beautiful!"
Scott: "Yeahhhh... unfortunately, they came with a card. Signed by Duncan," (holds out card)
Jean: "Damaged during delivery, I see,"
