Lois Combs Weinberg for U.S. Senate, 2002
HOW TO GET LOIS ELECTED
1.) Volunteer for the Kentucky Democratic party: Many people think supporting a political party means giving money, but money doesn't tell the DNC what your agenda is - - or who you want as your Senator. Volunteer at least one hour a month. Research the party structure in your state to discover how your state platform is decided - - make Lois's agenda, your state party's platform. Run for office yourself as a Democrat - - take back our school boards and town governments from the Far Right. 2.) Vote for Lois: Make sure to cast your vote for Lois in the Primary election on May 28, 2002, and the General Election on November 5, 2002. 3.) Volunteer at a LOIS2002 Headquarters: Each Headquarter needs help to organize events and just plain campaiging for Lois. They can really use your help. Just call ne of them and ask were the Headquarters nearest to you is at. 4.) Register ten new Lois Combs Weinberg voters: Lois can't win without support. Tell your friends and foes alike about Lois and stay on their tail untill they decide to vote for Lois. 5.) Talk to 10 Off-line Voters about Lois: One of the few limitations of organizing via the Internet is not everyone has access to the Internet. And it's the people who most need Lois's agenda who are the most likely to be off-line. Spread the word about Lois so that the Internet challenged can stand up and be counted as well. 6.) Stand up for Lois: When you see or hear a biased media report about Lois Combs Weinberg, write and call the media outlet in question, provide the facts and demand a retraction. When you write letters to the editor about current issues, tell them you support Lois in 2002. Call into talk radio shows and discuss your support for Lois, her record, and her positions on important issues. Visit online chat rooms and message boards and post your pro-Lois rants. Whenever somebody says anything negative about Lois, jump into the conversation and express your opinion. Be polite and calm, but don't let anybody spread disinformation about Lois in your presence. (Once you start doing this, you will discover many people who agree with you, but didn't have the knowledge or courage to speak up against "the conventional wisdom".) 7.) Become the media we wish to see in the world: Wear buttons and t-shirts showing your support for Lois Combs Weinberg in 2002. Decorate your car and home with pro-Lois signs and bumperstickers. Create a pro-Lois website.. Make a public access television show about political issues you care about. Create a pro-Lois newsletter or 'zine. Let us know about your efforts - - and we will let the rest of the LOIS2002 supporters know about it! 8.) Form an LOIS2002 club: Get a small group of like-minded individuals together to figure out other ways to promote Lois's candidacy. Shatter the walls of isolation that the other side is trying build around us all. Let us know about your group and any projects you launch. 9.) Make a scene: If you have Lois visit your town, show up and show your support. Bring as many people as you can find to the event. Bring signs if they'll let you - - if not, chant "LOIS!" (or any other elect Lois slogan you like) when Lois arrives. Let yourself go all through his visit: applaud and chant as much as you want! If you can't get into the event, meet her at the airport. 10.) Volunteer for an activist organization: Whether your deepest concerns are civil rights, the environment, campaign finance reform, securing voting rights or some other progressive issue, there are many activist organizations that need your help. These same organizations will eventually endorse a Senatoral candidate for the 2002 election. And as a member, you can lobby them to endorse Lois.
