2RRR is a community radio station situated at Gladesville, and is not too far away from Lane Cove and Hunters Hill in Sydney. What is SO GOOD about this station is that it plays LOTS AND LOTS OF METAL!!! In addition, it also plays lots of other good stuff as well. Here is what I have to say about the station.
As some of you may well know, I did a training course with2RRR. In addition, I did the final leg of my training with Zandrah and Sean (Prawn) of The Dead End between 10 and 11pm on Mondays, and Mark Raphael of Smacked About by Mark, which follows The Dead End at 11pm, and goes through until 1am on Tuesday mornings. Check out my comments about these shows by clicking here. Additionally, you can listen to Nathan and the Punk Show from 6 to 7pm, and Danny Kaleda with Monday Night Metal from 7pm to 10, prior to The Dead end.
Another favourite programmer of mine was The Rock Man. He has a program on Wednesday mornings, called The Trivial Breakfast Show. It can be heard from 6am to 8am. It includes news and trivia, and lots of Hard Rock (and even some Metal) music, as well as some of the more commercial stuff. Also, you can check him out on his website at www.geocities.com/rrrockman Here he is pictured with Pebbles (who used to have a breakfast show on Thursday mornings from 6 to 8 am, called 'Rock, Roll and Reminisce') and Eddie White (who occasionally does a country music show called 'The Cosmic Cowboy Cafe', also from 6 to 8 am, every second Sunday).
Pictured here is Matt Curley with Darren 'R', who used to do alot of programmes on 2RRR. At present, he does a Saturday night programme called 'The R-Zone', which includes all sorts of alternative music like Gothic, Electro-Industrial, Grunge, Punk, Brit Pop and all the like. Darren 'R' used to do a programme called 'Spectrum', which plays mostly commercial rock music.
Another favourite program of mine is 'Sydney Sounds' by Kevin Cherry. Kevin can be heard from 7 to 8pm on Saturday nights, and his type of music consists mostly punk-type Sydney-based bands (like Radio Birdman and The Hitmen). He has been broadcasting for as long as I can remember (probably since 1987 or even longer than that).
Last, but not least, is Stuart Minchin (also known as Uncle Stu). Uncle Stu has been with the station for as long as it has been around. He used to do a Breakfast Show called Absolute Zero, from 6 to 8am on Friday mornings, but this show is no longer on air now. He also does the 'small hours' programmes in the wee hours of Friday mornings - which features Blues, Australian, Aboriginal and Soul/Motown - four very distinct musical styles in five hours. As well, he is in charge of the Community Announcements on 2RRR and does breakfast programmes for 2HHH (formerly known as North FM).

But did you know that 2RRR did Metal Shows as far back as 1985? Oneof the original hosts was Steve Murray - he was the first radio DJ I ever knew personally. Lots of listeners (including myself) used to write in and comment about his show. And what was even better was that he used to acknowledge EVERY LISTENER who ever wrote in or rang up (not many other DJs I used to know would do that)!!!! And better still, he'd play their requests, whether it was Metallica, Manowar, Motorhead or Motley Crue!!!
