Baryonyx walkeri

"Walker's heavy claw"

(Charig & Milner, 1986)

Baryonyx walkeri

Stats:
Classification: Spinosauria: Spinosauridae: Baryonychinae
Age: Barremian (Early Cretaceous)
Length: ?12 m; 9.5 m (subadult)
Weight: 1.5 tonnes to 2 tonnes (subadult)

Yes indeed, this dinosaur does seem to resemble the Logosaurus in many aspects; the shape of the skull, teeth, and claws all look the same.  But look closer.  You will notice that our famed logosaur has a massive 'sail' rising from its back, an interesting but not uncommon feature of some spinosaurs.  And although Baryonyx was a member of the spinosaur family, it did not sport such an extensive vertebral column.  Say what you will, but I do not think we will be seeing much of this dinosaur in the upcoming film.

Additional Comments (not necessarily my own):

It has been said that Baryonyx will most likely be in the new Jurassic Park 3 movie because it has been mentioned in the official Jurassic Park dinosaur genera list.  Although this is true, there is absolutely no reason why other dinosaurs can not be introduced into the Jurassic Park trilogy.  After all, we were not expecting to see many of the dinosaurs portrayed in The Lost World.
