How Does This Scripture Help Us Today?
Intro
Believe it or not,
one of John Wayne’s more famous lines was in the movie Chisem. His co-star was
the famous character actor, Ben Johnson.
Ben Johnson, “it is said there is no law west of the Mississippi and no
God west of the Pecos.”
John Wayne, “I think you will find in all civilizations the law
eventually comes, and you will find God has already been
there.”
Today we believe we have cornered the market on
new and innovative ideas. In reality; there is nothing new, we just keep
improving on the old ideas. If you study and understand the bible you will find
it contains, in one form or another, each of the ideas we think we have thought
of. If people would have looked at God as their way to live, we would have
discovered these ideas hundreds of years ago.
This is a paraphrase: “In the beginning God
created birds that fly better than our planes and Bumble Bees that fly better
and faster than our Helicopters, horses more economical for travel, God designed
the first ship, etc.
How does the bible help us today? This is up to
us as individuals. God never wanted a national government, He prefers to deal
with us as individuals. The first king was the result of demands by the people
of Israel.
In our studies we will look at how the main
aspects of the bible could enrich our lives. We will answer the same questions
as the previous chapter, but in a different perspective. In the last chapter we
found why the writers chose to write their perspective books. In this chapter we
will explore the results of their writings.
Because of the “human nature” of man, the human
race does not want law and order. Man kind is a very disorderly being and hates
the thought of someone tell them they can’t do something. Without God and the
Divine nature He brings to us, there could be no law. Before law can come there
has to be something to soften the harden hearts of man. Thus the statement that
when law eventually comes, you will find that God has already been
there.
Because of the difference of opinion among
people, the scriptures contained in the bible could never collectively help us as a
nation. The help must come through the individual. If you remember the account
of the flood, God had already decided man-kind wasn’t worth saving. God did find
one man that was. God saved this individual and his family and began a new
people. The plan of salvation is based on each individual making a choice as to
the life they want to live.
This chapter will tell us how the bible will affect our lives, if we choose to live for God.
