Intro
In this chapter we are going to look at not only where the
event took place, but what were the circumstances surrounding the event. We will
look at the following five things:
Where was Jesus when He preached the sermon on
the mount? Was he in Israel or an Arab country? Did the people speak the same
language He spoke? Why was Jesus not speaking in the Synagogue? Was it customary
to listen to a stranger instead of going to the Synagogue to listen to the
Rabbi?
These things are very important for us to know.
Without these things, we could misunderstand a verse of scripture. Example: Read Romans
3:23.
If you only read that one verse, you could conclude that all Christians sin
frequently. Not true!! In fact Paul was talking about just the opposite. Now
read Romans
3:21-26. There is a marked
difference in the meaning of that verse of scripture and when this sin took
place.
In the next five days we will discuss these
things we need to know. In chapter 8 we will learn where we can find out about
some of the more remote things such as customs and
languages.
I believe this chapter will make you stop and think about how you read/study the bible.
