Education

The education I have received at Franklin & Marshall College is probably one of the most important parts of my ability to succeed in archaeology. Through my professors, I've learned the basics and theories of anthropology, as well as developed some more advanced thinking and lab strength. I hope to be able to give back this knowledge to a younger generation. I consider learning to be a lifelong pursuit and one that should be encouraged in all people. Archaeology in particular needs to teach others since it is through education that we can encourage understanding and also a respect for cultural remains.

Current Classes
ANT490: Honors Thesis Independent, Prof. Mary Ann Levine
My independent is based upon two summers of research done at the Ben Thresher�s Mill in Barnet, Vt. I used archaeological, historical, and oral history evidence to explore how the mill existed and prospered since the late 19th century. Prof. Levine is my honors advisor and I hope to be awarded honors in early May.
ART210: Figure Drawing, Prof. Peterson
This course is oriented towards exploring and understanding the figure through art. I have been concentrating on using a variety of mediums to present my ideas of the body and how it exists and it viewed by the self and by the culture.
ANT100: Social Anthropology Preceptorship, Prof. Misty Bastian
I am preceptoring this introductory anthropology course for Prof. Bastian. My duties are generally related to helping students develop their writing assignments and correcting papers. The work is, at times, frustrating, but still very interesting and rewarding. I also attend bimonthly meetings related to this position with other preceptors to discuss the experience.

Honors Thesis
I intend to center my honors thesis on the work I've done at the Ben Thresher's Mill over the past two summers and how it fits into the scheme of mills and industry in Barnet, Vermont. After April 26th, I will post selections from my thesis for anyone who is interested. Please see my section on the Ben's Mill in the "Work" Section.

The Future
I am currently seeking employement in Boston for the coming year after graduation. I'm a interested in working in museums, CRM, or at a state historical resources department. I hope to attend graduate school the following year in Boston. My ultimate wish to be involved in the education of others has lead me into an interest in museums as well as becoming a professor. I intend to work as a collection manager and display designer for a serious museum. While I've toyed with the idea of starting my own museum, that will probably only happen very far into the future. As a professor, I would like to teach historical archaeology as well as applied archaeology techniques and museum-type work.
