First a little about myself, my name is Lockhart Olsen, and I was employed as Station Assistant, Station Assistant/Shunter/and Signalman (7th, 5th and 4th class). I commenced at Sydney Station in the early 1960' as a Station Assistant, before gaining my Safeworking qualifications and progressing to Station Assistant Shunter at Botany Goods Yard,prior to taking up as a 7th class Signalman at Darling Island. After spending some time at Darling Island I applied for and gained the 6th class position at Katoomba, but before taking up duty received a further promotion to 5th Class Signalman at Cootamundra, however this did not work out, resulting in me handing in a resignation to get back to Sydney,where the resignation was rescinded and I returned to Darling Island.
After a period I applied for and was promoted to 5th Class Signalman at Epping where I took up duty and remained until further promoted to 4th Class at Rockdale.
