Power From Within is a group of autonomous individuals who participate in grass roots activism in Perth, Western Australia. The group organises around various social, economic, and environmental justice issues. PFW was originally formed out of the remnants of Youth and Students Against War (YSAW) - a Perth based anti war activist group. PFW though is more than a group. It is an organic movement of revolutionary action and thought. We seek not to build the group but to build and expand our own thought and actions. Consequently the group never stops evolving, every action builds our own personal revolutionary consciousness as well as building the broader local and global movement.
We do not necessarily conform to any structured ideological thought. Every member of the group is entitled to their own perception of revolutionary consciousness. We all generally believe in some form of social revolution but we do not preach personal idealology. All people of all walks of life are welcome. Regardless of whether, for example, you have read the Communist Manifesto thirty eight times or you simply grow organic vegetables and think that this system sucks! There is no prerequisite of personal perception other than that you believe in fighting against the effects of this sick system and advocate some form of social revolution/reformation/evolution. With every new member we grow as a group.
There are perhaps two important and unusual aspects to PFW. The first being that which has just been explained. We believe that there is an urgent need for unity both in the Perth left and on a global level. The second important aspect to PFW is our want and need to embrace new and different forms of dissent. We are sick of controlled, structured dissent. So we try to (dis)organise all sorts of unusual actions and thought. For example Street Theatre, Culture Jamming, Direct Action, Radical Discussion etc.
We seek to organise around many different issues eg refugee rights, anti war, animal rights, anti imperialism, anti neo-liberalism, anti fascism, environmental protection etc. At the same time we attempt to fight the cause of these social/environmental/economic issues eg Capitalism, corporate controlled Globalization etc.
There is an urgent need for a REAL revolutionary movement in Perth and throughout the world. This has recently been highlighted by the Imperialistic wars on Iraq/Afghanistan and the continual occupation of Palestine. There has never been a more important time to stand up and fight. The revolutions/resistance we see taking place all around the world eg Palestine, Iraq, Bolivia, Venezuela etc are a part of a much grander social movement.
