COLORING A GREY WORLD

Crossover: Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon, and Ranma

A/N: Prologue centered on Usagi! Yeah, I posted both sections of the prologue at the same time, so this won't have any reader responses or anything. But I hope people will review from here on out, with comments on changes in the story, or just on the story in general! This is definitely where there are some MAJOR re-writes happening.

Prologue B: Black Hole

##-------##

-They came yesterday.-

Usagi looked up as the nurse bustled about. She smiled a little, somewhat unsure of what to say to the busybody woman. It had been a long time since she last had a decent, cheerful conversation with someone she knew. The hospital had been a lonesome place since she had been placed here after the fire. The only visitor had been a tall man in a black suit.

[You understand, don't you...Tsukino-san?]

-Iie.-

She closed her eyes wearily, not wanting to watch the nurse bustle about the room and checking the machine monitoring her health. Usagi was still bandaged along her torso and limbs, as the fire she had been caught in burned most of her skin off in those areas. Her hair had been singed so badly that the only remains of the long silky tresses was a shoulder length bob that swished as she hung her head. She wondered why her healing process hadn't begun, was the fire magical? Did something prevent the lunarian magic in her body from recovering? It was just her luck to be the only person in the detention room at the time, having been late again that week. She still needed to work on her punctuality; the effects of Lunarian puberty were slowly wearing off.

-I'm tired.-

The man in the black suit had made her feel so exhausted, so tired that she sometimes couldn't breathe. She felt the cheeriness that once overtook her...gone. Everything seemed to be sucked out of her body, like some sort of vacuum or something.

-Emotion tearing away in tiny pieces.-

Granted, it had been a long while since she had acted the ditz of the olden days. Contrary to the beliefs of the senshi, she hadn't always been clumsy or dense or giggly. Those transformations had started about a month before she had met Luna, and had ended during her freshman year of high school. But the senshi had lived with her as a stupid little girl for so long, that they had assumed that was the way she would always be. They didn't even try to ask whether or not she had gotten good grades before, or that she had used to be able to eat ice cream without tripping over her own feet.

-It was the puberty. Lunarian puberty.-

It hadn't been that hard to figure it out, as the minute her clumsy attacks stopped was the time she had fully matured into her full senshi form, after defeating Chaos once more. It was as if she had regained her old body and mind back; before her head had been muddled and fuzzy like everything wouldn't connect somehow. She had felt so much sharper, and had managed to get B's in all her classes that semester. Then the fire came and she had been placed in the hospital. Her senshi never found out that she had gotten good grades. They refused to see that she never tripped, and had actually had something intelligent to say.

She hadn't seen much of her senshi in the days after Chaos.

"Tsukino-san? Would you like a water? Are you thirsty?"

Looking up quickly, Usagi realized that the nurse had been staring at her intently while she reviewed recent events. Shaking her head and giving another small smile, the blonde girl dismissed the nurse with a half-hearted wave.

[I hope you understand, Tsukino-san, what this means now.]

The man in the black suit made her so tired, and it didn't seem to matter that she had gotten her body and mind back. What he told her was so unreal; she still hadn't completely grasped what he was saying.

[Of course we will try to re-unite you with your brother. However as he is still going through the foster-care process...]

Her house was in ruins. Half of it was gone; her room was filled with broken glass. The man in black had brought her pictures of the crime scene. She didn't want to think about what had happened there. Her okaasan, her otousan...were they happy now? In a world way up high that she could never go to?

Usagi blinked back tears, determined not to make a scene. She had already gone silent after yesterday's events with the man in black. It was as if her mind had shut off to the horrible news.

-Okaasan...Otousan...don't leave me. Please.-

[We are working our hardest to locate the murderer. But given the little evidence we have found so far...]

What good was it to be Sailor Moon, defender of the universe, when nothing came of it but a trip to the hospital and no family? Where were her friends? Her senshi that should have visited her by now? Shouldn't they be worried?

-They're just busy with schoolwork, right?-

She shouldn't let her depression overanalyze everything. She was strong; she could handle this trauma and move on. She would find whoever did this to her parents and make them pay back a hundred-fold.

-Emotion...tearing away in...tiny...pieces...-

The purity of the 'Sailor Moon' title no longer hid her from the real world, her heart had started to seep in black and twist with pain. She would recover as best she could from these strange fire-burns that wouldn't heal immediately, and she would have her revenge. Usagi felt like she was jumping off a ledge that had no return.

There was a bottomless pit lying within her heart that she knew wouldn't go away. Sometimes...life-changing incidents will cause that to happen, you know? Usagi couldn't change the past. She couldn't help the anger building in her stomach like slow-churning molasses. It was tiring, sitting there with nothing to do but reflect upon her past.

-Where are you, my senshi? Why aren't you saving me from this sadness?-

##-------##

A/N: So, summary. Usagi gets caught in a fire in her detention room, her being the only one there. She doesn't know why her senshi powers aren't healing the wounds like they're supposed to, and her senshi haven't even come by to visit her yet.

Her parents had died at their home from some attack, though no one knows why as of yet. Her brother is being placed in an adoption center/foster care home of some sort.

I hope this is more believable than the last edition! I know a lot of people wanted to see more of Ikuko (Usagi's mother) and Kenji (Usagi's father) in the old version, but I felt that to make this story more believable, I had to re-write them as dead so that her adoption had more validity.
