| Why Hire An Independent Home Inspector | |||||||
| A true Independent Inspector will be working for you the client 100% and not the selling agent or anyone else. There is a potential conflict of interest when hiring an inspector that has been referred by a broker/agent, many times these inspectors are working for the agent and will try to soften or overlook problems in a home to supposedly make it easier for the agent to sell the home. This is not to say that all agents are dishonest. Oklahoma Law? There needs to be a law here in Oklahoma much like the one in Massachusetts, that prevents realtors from only having a few favorite inspectors on their list for referrals. Realtors should provide a whole list of qualified inspectors in their area, and not suggest one over the other. I will suggest that home buyers get involved, write to your legislators to enact amendments to real estate licensing laws. These amendments would add a "firewall" between real estate agents and home inspectors giving the home buyer a better opportunity to hire the inspector of their choice. Much of this information and more can be found on the IHINA website. Articles about choosing an Independent Inspector: Recommended Home Inspectors - who do they serve?
