RADON
2ND

LEADING CAUSE OF
LUNG CANCER
RADON GAS WHAT IS IT?  Radon is an invisible, odorless and colorless gas, and it comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in the soil, rock, water and gets into the air you breathe.  Radon can be found all over the U.S. It can get into any type of building - homes, offices, and schools - and build up to high levels.  But you and your family are most likely to get your greatest exposure at home.  Thats where you spend most of your time.  Radon can concentrate in homes especially as more and more homes are built to be energy efficient.  Radon Gas is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer, unsafe levels of radon seep into as many as 8 million homes nationwide.  The deadly gas is responsible for up to 30,000 cancer deaths each year and is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers.  Indeed this time bomb is the most hazardous source of radiation in North America.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE RADON GAS? There are several methods, the charcoal canister is the cheapest, but it is not tamper proof, is sensitive to humidity and must be sealed properly and mailed in for results which can take a while.  I use a (CRM) Continuous Radon Monitor to test for Radon, it is a state of the art machine that measures Radon, Barometric Pressure, Temperature, Humidity, every hour on the hour.  It also has a motion sensor to help prevent someone from cheating on the test.  The CRM I use is the femto Tech Model 510 this CRM is very accurate and will give immediate results after the 48 hour test, very useful for a buyer who needs results right away before finalizing the purchase of a home.

WHAT CAN BE DONE IF HIGH LEVELS OF RADON ARE FOUND? High levels of radon in a home are fixable.  I would recommend someone who is licensed in mitigation for Radon.  I highly recommend Gary Boesker listed to the left, he is an honest man and I met him inclass when I got my radon measurement certification. I have also seen his work and tested his work after it was completed with no problems at all.

The EPA and the Surgeon General recommend that all homes be tested for radon.
