I grew up in the Mid-Atlantic area of America watching professional wrestlingat least that's what they always called the area's championand now introducing: THE MID- ATLANTIC CHAMPION!!! I remember them exclaiming that every Saturday night. It seemed to be pretty much a localized thing with the occasional show coming by the City Armory every now and thenYou usually had one singles MEN'S champ and of course the Tag Team champsit seemed like once someone had the belts they would generally hold on to those babies for quite awhile, but there would be the occasional upset with the local promoter's chosen Golden boy or boys being defeated by some new upstarts or bad guys, but rest assured in a week or two those belt's would be safely back around the waists of the local favorites.
I always noticed that, for the most part, women were suspiciously absent from these weekly soap operas. Oh, you had the yearly visit from the Fabulous Moolah (now this woman HAD to be good because she was champ of the WHOLE worldfree or otherwise)And then you'd get a couple of Indy girls to roll around with each other for a couple of monthsswapping defeats and victories. But then they'd be on to the next town once their 2-month contract with the local promoter had run out.
So as I got older, armed with nothing more than my imagination and my teenage hormones kicking inI had a fantastic revelation (not quite like Moses on the Mountaintop, but similar) of how great it would be if you could get two scantily clad, hot females into the squared circle to go at each other with everything they had to giveHell, why not even have a league, with belts and everythingFemale celebrities seemed to be the obvious participants. (Though I must admit, early on, a couple of cheerleaders from my local high school found their way into the organization as well) When I got on the Internet I was surprised at how many of these leagues and organizations there actually were for celebs to battle inguess my teenage revelation wasn't that unique after alland now I constantly enjoy hearing what other fans of celebrity fighting have on their mind about what's going on in this special world |
