| 12/7/01 11:30PM: Lauren's weight crept up to 3 lbs, 1.2 oz. They increased her feeds from 14 to 16 cc's, and she is tolerating them with minimal residual volumes. Her stools are now somewhat formed. Grandma Ann flew in from New Jersey tonight and will be visiting Baby Lauren tomorrow - let's see if she notices a difference in size... 12/8/01 10:00PM: Grandma Ann got to visit Lauren twice today. In the morning she went with Daddy and got to hold her for the whole time. Grandma and Daddy took turns feeding Lauren from the bottle and she sucked down practically the whole bottle. She also got to kangaroo hold Lauren until she got really sleepy and Daddy put her back in the incubator. Later in the day, Grandma got to visit again with Mommy. Lauren got a bath from Mommy and Grandma got to tube feed her... Tonight she weighed 3 lbs, 1.4 oz. 12/9/01 10:00PM: There was a death in the family today. Lauren's great-grandpa on her daddy's side passed away. Lauren (and Mommy and Daddy and Preston) will pray for him. He was almost 98 years old... The good news tonight is that Lauren continues to gain weight slowly but surely. She is now up to 3 lbs, 2.0 oz... Grandma Ann and Mommy report that she was very tired and sleepy when they went to visit... CLICK HERE for Baby Lauren's latest pictures..... 12/10/01 11:00PM: Lauren's feedings were increased to 18 cc's every three hours and she is tolerating them with small residuals. She is now up to 3 lbs, 2.8 oz. The neonatologist ordered an EKG and a rhythm strip (electrocardiogram - electrical tracing of the heart's activity) just to make sure everything is still ok. They were normal. One of her stomas is sticking out quite a bit and they are concerned about it so they will ask Dr. Bufo to look at it.... 12/11/01 11:45PM: Aunt Caroline flew in from Texas today for great-grandpa's funeral. A side benefit of the trip is that she got to see Baby Lauren and got to kangaroo her for a long time. She says that Lauren looks lots bigger, and she is right: the last time she saw her she weighed 1 lb, 8 oz - tonight she weighed 3 lbs, 3.2 oz. They increased her feedings to 19 cc's every three hours. She is due for a recheck of her eyes any day now... 12/12/01 11:00PM: Lauren's weight crept up to 3 lbs, 3.6 oz today. She is now getting "24 cal Preemie Formula" for her feeds. Unfortunately Mommy's milk supply is no longer able to keep up with Lauren's demands... Lauren's feedings are up to 20 cc's every three hours now and she is tolerating them well. Daddy was sad when he arrived for his visit (they buried great-grandpa Rudy today) but Lauren cheered him right up. "Aunt Margaret" and "Aunt T" from St. Mary's Trauma came to see Lauren tonight and were surprised at how much she's grown... Dr. Bufo came up yesterday to look at the stoma that was sticking out too far and pushed it back in without any problems. They'll keep a close watch on it... 12/13/01 11:00PM: Lauren's weight is now up to 3 lbs, 5 oz. She is tolerating the formula feeds very well and is getting much better at bottle feedings. She can now drink the whole 20 cc's with minimal stimulation. They say that the eye doctor will be coming tomorrow to see her. Lets hope her eyes haven't gotten any worse.... 12/14/01 11:30PM: Lauren got a bath from Mommy tonight and apparently was very hungry because she sucked down the entire 22 cc's (yes, she is up to 22 cc's every three hours now) in one sitting. She was seen today by the ophthalmologist and there has been no further deterioration of her eyes. She is still classified as having Stage 2, Zone 2, no plus ROP, and statistically has a 79% chance of not getting any worse. She will be examined again in approximately two weeks. She still had not been weighed when Daddy updated the site, so we'll just have to wait until tomorrow. Any guesses as to how much she will weigh???? |
