These photos were taken June 25-27, 2000 during a trip to the Bighorn River below the Yellowtail dam at Ft. Smith, Montana.  The trip was arranged by Bill Orr of High Desert Angler in Santa Fe, NM and lodging and guide services were provided through the Bighorn Trout Shop.  Click on a picture for a larger image.

Beautiful downtown Ft. Smith

Putting in at the Afterbay dam.

Todd helps with the boat.

Fish on!!

Isn't fishing with a guide great?

He nets the fish and unhooks it.

You get to pose with it

and let it go.

Now it's Todd's turn.

All wild fish, nothing stocked, and really strong.

A nice brown.

And away it goes.

A nice rainbow caught on the drift.

And a nice little brown taken the same way.

Lunch under the cottonwoods.

Letting the guide show how it's done.

Which he did.

Repeatedly.

Mike and Judy looking for fish.

And watching us drift by.

Fishing BWO dries to some rising trout.

Looks good from the back, too.

Some pretty river scenery.

The Bighorn rapids.

A nice riffle.

The water is crystal clear.

And the scenery is beautiful.

More pretty water.

Getting near the end of the day.

And the traffic starts to bunch up.

Near the Bighorn access takeout.

Waiting for a spot on the ramp at the end of the day.
