My Memory Book for Mama

This is a memory book for Mama. I'm hoping she will be able to take it and show her sister who has Alzheimers and maybe she will remember something. A woman on one of my scrapbooking groups said she had hers' out and her grandfather who also has it and had not spoken in a very long time saw it and tears came to his eyes and he spoke. He told them all about the events leading up to the pictures. So, I'm hoping maybe if Mama shows Aunt Elsie this, just possibly the same thing could happen. It may not, but it's still worth trying.

This page says "MAMA" My mama was born in 1926. She had two sisters, Sara and Elsie, Sara being the oldest. Mama's mama died when Mama was 6 years old. Her daddy died when I was 6 years old. I didn't get to know my grandma. Heck, Mama didn't get to know her for very long. I wonder sometimes how a little girl could possibly grow into a woman without knowing her mama, without growing up with a mother's love. She grew up to be a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. I was close to her growing up, but I'm much closer to her now.... now that I'm a mother and grandmother. First my mother....forever my friend. I love you, Mama.

This page is a family tree.

This page says "I don't remember how Mama met our dad. He was in the army. Pat was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Then they went to Germany and Brenda was born in Munich and I'm not sure if they came back to the states before I was born 14 months later, but then I was born in Frankfurt. We came back to the states when I was 3 months old, and I think we lived in Virginia or Georgia. Then we went back over there and Debbie was born when I was 4." And at the bottom of the bottom picture it just says "Mama was pregnant here."

Under the top photo it says This was our Grandma with our mama and her sisters. Mama is the one on the right". And below the bottom picture it says "This was when our Grandma was quarantined with TB. Mama and her sisters would have to visit through the window."

The first picture on the page is Grandpa and his grown daughters. The second one is Grandpa with most of his grandchildren. Debbie must have either not been born yet, or she was an infant. And the text says "Our Grandpa died when I was 6. He was a fun man. I don't remember much about him, but I remember he'd pull me up to him and tickle me silly. I remember the night he died. We were all at Aunt Elsie's house. It was late at night and all of us kids were put to bed while Mama and her sisters went to the hospital. At some time during the night, they came home and told us he'd died. Or at least that's what I think happened. I don't remember why we were awake, but we all were. And Mama passed around the aspirin.

This page just has pictures of Mama's grandparents. At the bottom is a picture of Mama and Aunt Elsie and a friend.

The text on this page says "While we were in Germany, we went with this other family to a place called Idor Oberstein to the Church in the Rock. Two brothers, the Counts of Oberstein, both loved the same woman and fought over her. One threw the other over the side of the mountain. In his grief, the surviving brother built a church on the spot where his brother died.

This page is about Aunt Sara and Aunt Elsie. The top text says "Aunt Sara...when we were little, Aunt Sara was the closest thing we had to a grandmother. She saw that we had stuff when she knew we needed it and didn't have it. She used to make us clothes. I remember the multi-striped skirt she made me. I felt like a princess. I also remember she'd have me come to her house after school and clean, just light cleaning, and she'd give me a quarter. And who could forget her chocolate bread pudding? It was sooooooooo good. And she'd always let us have it when we came over. And she wore the HIGHEST heels to church that I'd ever seen. I still don't know how she walked in them.

This page is when we surprised Mama for her birthday. We ate at Ryan's, now Golden Corral. I don't know how I got her there without her suspecting, but I did. I was afraid she'd drop her tray when she saw the others. We had a great time.

I believe the top picture was just after the lunch where we surprised Mama and then we went to Brenda's and all the grandchildren were there. The bottom picture is when I made Mama a picture quilt. We all had fun looking at all the pictures.

And this last page is for her greatgrandchildren. She has nine... ( not sure if this is the right order, but...) Josh, Kayla, Jonathan, Sierra, Jacob, Taylor, Noah, Dillon, and Aaliyah".
