Mattel uses Barbie Girl for a Barbie commercial (01/10/2009)

In 1997, Mattel sued Aqua for their hit single Barbie Girl, as the company thought that the song's double entendres didn't fit the image of the doll. Despite Aqua claiming the lyrics were just a social comment, this caused the withdrawal of Barbie Girl from all US shops, thus hampering Aqua's success in that country. The case didn't solve until 2002, with a sentence favorable to Aqua and a recommendation from the judge for both parts "to cool off".

Seven years later, the irony is that Mattel themselves are using Barbie Girl for the commercials of a new Barbie doll series. Of course, it's not Aqua singing and the lyrics have been modified and toned down. You can watch the advert below.
