Electric Chairs' official "Barbie Girl" cover (22/07/2005)

Special thanks to Joel for writing me about this release.

Back into 17/10/2001, Electric Chairs released under the Badorb.com label a limited 12" vinyl with an official cover of Aqua's "Barbie Girl". This single release was limited to only 522 copies, so it is very rare to find it nowadays.

Electric Chairs was a project of Thomas Fehlmann, friend and often collaborator of The Orb. Their great cover of "Barbie Girl" is rather downtempo, with many electro sounds and noises, accompanied by an acoustic guitar and even some crickets.

The release featured these five versions of the cover song:

  • A1 Barbie Girl (Flowing Version / Original Mix)
  • A2 Barbie Girl (Flowing Mix)
  • A3 Barbie Girl (Flowing Tickle Mix / TF Long Version)
  • B1 Barbie Girl (Blastiquer Mix) Mixed By S.E. Berlin
  • B2 Barbie Girl (The Good, The Bad Mit Barby Mix) Mixed By The Orb

Both the "Blastiquer Mix" and the "The Good, The Bad Mit Barby Mix" mixes were later featured in the 2002 Badorb.com compilation titled "Bless You".

On the other hand, the "Barbie Girl (TF Long Version)" was featured in the 2001 compilation "Cass & Slide: Essential Mix Radio One", and also two years later in The Orb compilation for the well known "Back to mine" series.

You can check the lyrics of Electric Chair's "Barbie Girl" at the Lyrics & Chords section and listen a one minute sample of the song here.
