First Aqua work: Frække Frida soundtrack (09/08/2005)

1994. Claus Norreen and Søren Rasted had already met and started working on some songs together. This same year they won a contest in order to write and compose the music for an upcoming danish movie, "Fr�kke Frida og de frygtl�se spioner".

This film was directed by Søren Ole Christensen, and it was the first real motion adaptation of a popular danish books series for children, written by Lykke Nielsen, about the character Fr�kke Frida, a kind of naughty girl.

For this movie, Claus Norreen and Søren Rasted wrote, composed & produced the whole soundtrack: 10 songs and 2 instrumentals. It was their first music release together, their first serious project. They also played some instruments in the songs, with the collaboration of other musicians such like Ole Kibsg�rd, Jon Bruland, Morten Sidenius and others.

The songs are mainly perfomed by the same casting actors that appear in the movie, but there are collaborations of actual singers such as Ren� Dif, who one year later became an Aqua member altogether with Claus & S�ren (and, of course, Lene). Even S�ren Rasted performed on one of the songs.

Unfortunately, the full soundtrack has never appeared on CD. It was just released as a cassette by the label Elap, while some songs like "Si-bab-rapper-di-�hh" were separately released as 12" vinyl promotional singles and others like "Fr�kke Frida" have appeared on some music-for-kids compilations. Also, the movie has never been released on DVD, just VHS. So it's actually quite difficult to find & listen to this soundtrack. But there's not doubt that it should be worth a listen, for it is the project where Aqua was born, to speak of.

Update: A reissue of this soundtrack in CD format was released by Elap in Denmark in 2001. It can be bought second-hand from danish on-line shops like CD Skiven.
