 Julie�s lingering insecurities hurt her marriage to Mark.

After returning home from NYC, Cathy remained angered at best friend Julie Siegel for having been the one to tell her father of her drug problems. Meanwhile, she began dating Julie�s twin, Tim, who was now a law student. Tim stood by Cathy in the rough days following her rehab and encouraged her to let go of the animosity she had toward many of her loved ones. Shortly thereafter, Tim returned to law school. Once more, Cathy was on her own.
When Julie began dating football player Jack Lawson, she shocked her disapproving parents by announcing that she was going to move in with in. Their relationship, however, wasn�t a good one�as Jack regularly ran around with other women. Julie became so distraught over Jack�s unfaithfulness, and their subsequent break up, that she suffered an emotional breakdown and subsequently had to consort with a psychiatrist to cope.
During this difficult period, Julie met a new man, Dr. Mark Toland, a Llanview Hospital intern with a captivating Texas drawl. Upon their marrying in 1971, Mark soon discovered that his new wife was still emotionally scarred by her breakup with Jack and was frigid in bed. Mark attempted to be patient and supportive, but his nerves became frayed by Julie�s nervous behavior. The Toland marriage was in big trouble!
